N.J. Legislature votes to make Juneteenth a state holiday
State lawmakers voted Thursday to designate Juneteenth, the day commemorating the end of slavery, a state holiday.
The legislation establishes the third Friday in June as Juneteenth Day, and must be signed by Gov. Phil Murphy to become law.

Wirths Explains His Rationale for Opposing Juneteenth Bill
The Assembly this afternoon passed a bill designating the third Friday in June in each year as Juneteenth Day — that celebrates the emancipation of remaining enslaved African-Americans — and establishes it as a State holiday. The vote tally was 62-0-12. Among those abstaining was our very own LD 24 Assemblyman Hal Wirths.

Sen. Booker Delivers Keynote Address at the National Food Policy Conference
Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) delivered the keynote address at the virtual National Food Policy Conference hosted by the Consumer Federation of America. During his remarks, Senator Booker discussed his legislative efforts to reform our broken food system and highlighted the negative impacts the current system has on independent family farmers, rural communities, public heath, workers and farm animals. Today, Booker also introduced a bill to boost safety and protect meatpacking workers from COVID-19, The Safe Line Speeds in COVID-19 Act.
