  • Rep. Sherrill: Senate Must Act with Urgency on Expiring Unemployment Benefits

    Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) today released a statement slamming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for his failure to act with any sense of urgency on the expanded unemployment benefits that expire today:

  • Sherrill, Pascrell, Beyer, Schakowsky, and Waters Demand FEMA Response to Reports of Faulty PPE Sent to Nursing Homes

    Representatives Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Bill Pascrell (NJ-09), Don Beyer (VA-08), Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), and Maxine Waters (CA-43) today led 32 of their colleagues in calling on FEMA to respond to recent reports that faulty masks, gowns, and gloves were sent to nursing homes. Currently, more than 40% of all COVID-19 deaths have been tied to nursing homes. The Members demanded answers as to how, and the level at which, faulty equipment was sent to nursing homes, how it has impacted staff and patients, and how FEMA plans to prevent such errors in the future.

  • Menendez Introduces Bill to Promote Diversity and Inclusion in the Federal Workforce

    U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), the highest-ranking Latino in Congress today introduced the Federal Jobs Act that would require the development and implementation of a government-wide initiative to promote, expand, and retain diverse talent across the federal workforce. The bill is cosponsored by Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Congressman Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.-20) introduced a similar bill in the House of Representatives.

  • House passes Gottheimer-sponsored bipartisan $50 billion child care stabilization fund, gives dollars back for New Jersey

    The House passed bipartisan legislation cosponsored by U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) — H.R. 7027, the Child Care is Essential Act — on Wednesday to create a $50 billion Child Care Stabilization fund and invest in child care so that providers across the Fifth District have the resources they need to safely reopen. Without adequate investments in the child care industry, families across the country will be unable to return to work.
