  • Magic Money is always the GOP Answer

Leading Republican gubernatorial candidate Kim Guadagno has a plan that will slash the average homeowner’s property tax up to $3000 a year, costing the state $1.5 billion. How will she accomplish that?

  • Christie’s “creative accounting” for 911 service

“In 2015, the last year that data was available, only $75,000 of the $122 million collected went toward upgrading the system. No state in the country has collected more from its taxpayers to fund critical upgrades to the 911 system, and, according to the federal government, no state uses less of that money to actually fund improvements to their system.”

  • Oroho won't give up on Reaganomics

George H.W. Bush called Ronald Reagan’s theories “voodoo economics” and Reagan’s own budget director, David Stockman, also not exactly a flaming liberal, debunked “supply-side” or “trickle-down” economics as a pipe dream.

But in the ensuing decades, the notion that eliminating taxes on the wealthy, and on corporations, has become enshrined in the national conservative conscientious. And despite effects of those policies turning out to be as helpful to working people as unicorns flying over rainbows, GOP legislators continue to insist shifting more people’s money to fewer rich people is the tide that raises all boats.

  • Mr. Gas Tax Argument Falls Apart

Senator Oroho’s plan to provide the funding needed for New Jersey’s roads and bridges was built upon a scheme to shift that financial burden from New Jersey’s wealthiest citizens to those who have long commutes. Recent reports show that Oroho’s claims to support his position were bogus.

  • We have Oroho to thank

If you’re one of Sussex County’s tens of thousands of commuters who spend more than an hour on the road getting to and from work, the $0.23 cent increase in the gas that took effect in November might have bit into your holiday cheer.

No worries! According to state Sen. Steve Oroho, who bucked even much of his own party to support the increase, new tax regulations that took effect on Sunday will help cushion the pain.

  • Mulshine likes Oroho’s gas tax, ignores the rest of his scheme

Star Ledger’s resident “conservative” columnist, Paul Mulshine, praises Sussex County State Senator Steve Oroho for facing up to the Transportation Trust Fund crisis by calling for an increase in New Jersey’s gas tax.

  • Let’s not put New Jersey further into the red

Senator Steve Oroho ought to review two recent reports before he goes out on the limb to eliminate New Jersey’s estate tax. His proposal would further the “borrow and spend” approach to the state’s fiscal management that just isn’t working.

  • Oroho's plan to fix roads: cut taxes on the rich, hit the middle class

According to State Senator Steve Oroho, the cure to fixing New Jersey's decaying roads and infrastructure is to cut taxes on rich people, increase taxes on the middle class and poor, and to make it all palatable by creating a flim-flam income tax rebate program that makes it look like we're getting some of the money back.
