    SCDC committee member Harry Kaplan saw this endeavor as more than a good deed, it was a mission that he needed to complete for a fellow service member. He contacted a number of American Legion posts in New Jersey, Congressman Josh Gottheimer, and historian Wayne McCabe in the hopes they would help him find the medal's original owner or family.

  • Newton vigil to focus on overdose awareness victims

    The Center for Prevention and Counseling will once again hold their annual candlelight vigil on the Newton Green in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day.
    “The solemn ceremony organized by the Center for Prevention and Counseling will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Green will be lined with luminaries and photos of loved ones who died from drug overdoses, while those still struggling with substance abuse will be recognized as well.”

  • Some Sussex County towns will allow marijuana sales. Is yours on the list?

    “The Township Council is expected to take a final vote on an ordinance Monday that allows for the growing and processing of cannabis, but no retail operations.
    Prior to the public hearing, the Council will discuss possibly amending the retail prohibition to allow for retail stores outside the town center, said Mayor Howard Burrell.”
